This ingenious safety lock was developed as fastening solution for convertible soft tops in England more than 90 years ago. German automobile manufacturers wanted higher quality; therefore the safety lock was not imported from England, but manufactured in Germany by Schaeffer – today Schaeffertec – as “DER ORIGINAL-KNOPF” from 1928 till the end of the 1950s.

Between the 1960s and 2013, the button was known under another name. Although it was Schaeffer, and later Schaeffertec, who manufactured and enhanced the safety lock with their know-how, due to a trademark dispute Schaeffertec cannot use that trade name anymore.

Since 2014, following these trademark issues, Schaeffertec manufactures the safety lock under the trade name LOXX®. The place of production, as it always has been, is Germany. Since then, LOXX® is again available as “DER ORIGINAL-KOPF” – back to the roots! (See the section after the next.)

How does LOXX® work?

LOXX® closes and locks automatically. The perfectly designed stainless steel spring (similar to a tow-bar) fits snugly around the standardized ball head of the lower part. The smart mechanism will not open unless the cap of the upper part is lifted and the ball head is released.
LOXX® is reliable in its use, it is manufactured sustainably and surprises time and again with its innovative design.

The LOXX® XL

Use LOXX® XL if you want to connect multiple fabrics with each other. This fastener has a clamping area of up to 6 mm and thus can also be used for thicker materials. The LOXX® XL is available in 5 colors.

The smooth headed LOXX® is a favorite in the automotive industry. It is available in 5 different finishes, but in this sector it is mostly used in nickel, chrome and black chrome.

The LOXX® XXL with its 10 mm clamping area makes it possible to attach your floor mats safely and prevent them from slipping. All the upper parts are normally delivered with the LOXX® standard washer. The original LOXX® long washer has been developed by Schaeffertec in 2009 in order to have a higher clamping area (+ 1 mm). As a standard, all upper parts and all big lower parts for fabric are available either with the standard washer, or with the long washer (for more information see LOXX® a modular fastener). The long washer can also be ordered separately. This is a development and a service of Schaeffertec!

LOXX® Self-tapping screws.

The so-called sheet metal screw is available in many different sizes and finishes. What makes the original LOXX® screws so special is that they are made of three parts. The thread is made of stainless steel. The perfect ball pin and the distinctive hexagonal can be made of brass or stainless steel – according to our customer’s preferences. We always try to satisfy our customer’s requirements! We have the original LOXX® screws available ex stock in a lot of different lengths and finishes.

Do you need a particularly long screw? We have a brand new 26 mm long self-tapping screw in our program. This screw is available in stainless steel, nickel plated brass and chrome plated brass.

The small LOXX® oval plate.

This is a very classic lower part. It is 27 mm (1,06") long and you can fix it with screws, but it can also be fixed by riveting. The center hole distance is 5,1 mm (0,59"). The small LOXX® plate is made of brass and is mainly used with nickel, chrome or black chrome plating. If you need a flatter lower part than our screws, then you should use this small LOXX® plate. If you have turn buttons on your classic car, and you wish to change, then you should use the LOXX® TBR Plate, as the hole distance is respectively 22,3 mm (0,88").

The LOXX® metric screws.

We offer you a variety of metric screws by default. Length, thread and surface can vary. As a standard we do have the original LOXX® metric screws in stock in 3 different sizes: M4, M5 and M6. The different length and materials of our screws make our range unbeatable. Due to our German production we are very flexible and can offer you special productions starting at a minimum purchasing quantity of 500 pcs. This is our special service for you!
The most commonly used LOXX® metric screw on classic cars is the M5 x 10 mm. It is available in brass nickel plated, chrome plated, black chrome plated and in 100% stainless steel. Check out our catalogs...

The pin of this lower part has a diameter of 4.5 mm, a length of 5 mm, and two grooves. It can be glued in easily and permanently with a suitable adhesive.

Because of the grooves in the pen the glue is distributed evenly and the lower part gets a very good hold.
As a standard, the LOXX® lower part for gluing in is available in nickel plated brass. Other versions are available on request.

The small lower part for welding

The small lower part for welding has a diameter of 10 mm, is 7 mm high and is made of weldable stainless steel.

The big LOXX® lower part.

Both, the big LOXX® lower part, as well as the LOXX® upper part are mounted with the same toothless washer. The benefits are:

1) Since the holes needed to fix the two LOXX® parts to the fabric have the same diameter only one tool is needed to make them.
2) There is also only one tool needed to fix the washer onto the upper and lower part.
3) You can use either the standard washer or the long washer to change the clamping area.
Please note: The original LOXX® lower part for fabric has the brand "LOXX" embossed on the bottom side, and “Made in Germany” on the washer. And: Only the original is made by Schaeffertec. Take of the washer and you will find "Schaeffertec" embossed on the inside of the lower part. Make sure that you bought the original!
